YouTube’s New Movie Rentals

YouTube unveiled yesterday that you can start renting movies to view on their site.  The pricing for the rentals is actually not bad ranging from $0.99 and $3.99.

With deals lined up with Disney, Warner Bros., Sony, Universal and Lionsgate it is looking like the may start to give Netflix a run for their money.

This is goes along with YouTube’s initiative to begin to create original content TV channels as well with original show ideas from Jay Z and Ashton Kutcher.

Let’s just hope the don’t get ride of what YouTube is famous for, people doing dumb things at cute cat videos.

Check it all out here.

One way to never get a call back

While sipping my coffee this morning and going through my daily news and blog sources online I came across this headline:

Script left at Beverly Hills talent agency blown up by police

I am not joking.  A bright young man in Beverly Hills decided to bring a locked briefcase with his script inside to a talent agency and leave it there with the hopes that someone would read it.  The talent agency’s security called the police thinking that it was a bomb, thus resulting in this man’s blown up script.

Read the full article on this story from the LA Times here.

Now I have heard creative ways of trying to get your script in the door, but seriously?  Did this guy actually think that this was the best way to get people to read his script?

To all of your aspiring screenwriters out there..this is NOT the way to get your script read!

Why Amanda Hocking Should Inspire You

Amanda Hocking is YA author who has self published her novels through Kindle and The Nook.  Because of the amazing success of her e-book sales St. Martin’s Press has recently offered her a $2 million deal for her next four books.  To learn more about her check out her blog and the article about her in the NY Times.

Now why should this inspire anyone working in production, specifically screenwriters?  This should inspire you to finally take your chance at whatever you are aiming for.  Amanda notes her success to video online she saw from her hero Mark Hoppus from Blink-182 in 2009.

“I was like, ‘That’s it!’” Hocking said. “This whole time I’ve had a passion and I’ve waited for it to happen. I need to do it.”  She started to treat her passion for writing as an actual job and went on to write 6 novels that year.

If you want to be a writer then quit talking about it and actually do it.  The same goes for directing, editing and producing.  Get out there and make your dreams a reality rather than just waiting around for something to happen.

Amanda, you are my inspiration and I also really like your books : )

CBS Stops Production on Two and a Half Men

CBS announced yesterday that they were discontinuing production for their hit series Two and a Half Men.

“Based on the totality of Charlie Sheen’s statements, conduct and condition, CBS and Warner Bros. Television have decided to discontinue production of “Two and a Half Men” for the remainder of the season.”

These statements of course were from Charlie Sheen speaking on the The Alex Jones radio show where he attacked Chuck Lorre, the series creator, as well as Alcoholics Anonymous.

After the annoucement was made Charlie Sheen decided that the best course of action was to write an open letter to TMZ:

What does this say about Haim Levine [Chuck Lorre] after he tried to use his words to judge and attempt to degrade me. I gracefully ignored this folly for 177 shows
I fire back once and this contaminated little maggot can’t handle my power and can’t handle the truth. I wish him nothing but pain in his silly travels especially if they wind up in my octagon.

Clearly I have defeated this earthworm with my words — imagine what I would have done with my fire breathing fists. I urge all my beautiful and loyal fans who embraced this show for almost a decade to walk with me side-by-side as we march up the steps of justice to right this unconscionable wrong.

Remember these are my people
 not yours
we will continue on together

Charlie Sheen

I have to say I honestly feel so bad for the rest of the cast and the crew.  They have all now lost their jobs because of this stupid idiot.  Good luck Charlie finding any work in Hollywood.
